Denim has more of an attitude this season, and I’m not just talking about the American flag shorts that were big last Spring/Summer. Denim is available this season in practically every color and I especially love when its distressed and studded too. Denim is also embodying the dip-dye trend, as well as taking on a DIY feel which is actually what’s so great about this trend. The denim jacket with the lace from UO in the photo above could easily be made at home by purchasing a denim jacket from a thrift shop, removing the top pannel, and hand stitching lace or another fabric in its place. Any of the shorts wouldn’t be difficult to replicate at home either. I am particularly obsessed with denim vests, so I picked up an old denim jacket from Goodwill yesterday and cut off the sleeves. Later I’m going to bleach it, distress it, and add some studs. I’ll try and remember to let you know how it goes!
So im convinced that this year’s color will not only be tangerine, as predicted by Pantone, but also mint green. I especially love this color, not only because it is a pastel, but also because the house I lived in during my senior year of college was nicknamed “The Minto”. I guess by wearing mint green pants or a top I’d be paying a little tribute to my favorite little house and all the amazing memories I made there. Mint chocolate chip ice cream is also pretty amazing…just sayin.
Since we are on the brink of Spring I am designating this week as Much Lush Spring Trend Week! We have already set our clocks to spring forward, the first day of spring is only a few days away, and I know we are all itching to bust out our dresses, tanks, and shorts. I have been working with Spring/Summer 2012 RTW clothes since November and have gotten a pretty good grasp of what to expect this season. (In case any of you don’t know, I am a freelance assistant fashion stylist in NYC.) Each day this week I will be featuring a different trend which will range from garment details to a specific trending item like this past fall’s loafers or last spring/summer’s Jeffery Campbell Lita heel. These are going to be my favorite trends of the season and they will be very wearable ones (no see-through dresses here!) Stay tuned for the first trend and let me know what you think will be a must-have item this season!
FRESH OFF THE RUNWAY:
Head to toe prints were all over the Resort 2012 runways, as well as mixing various prints within a look. When putting together an outfit first find a print garment that has only a few colors; for example a skirt. Next pair it with another print garment that also only has a few colors; for example a top or blazer. Make sure the color schemes between the garments go nicely with one another and don’t be afraid to sport two different floral or stripe prints at the same time either; those are perfect! Layering multiple prints will be sure to get you noticed and will look super cute. Stay ahead of the pack and start sporting this trend now!
